How does the grams to cups converter work?
Cups measure volume. Grams measure weight. Each ingredient has its own weight per cup, so the converter keeps a table of grams per US cup for 45 baking ingredients. It converts your amount to grams first, then divides by that ingredient's grams per cup to get cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons.
The table uses typical values from USDA household measures and the King Arthur Baking ingredient weight chart. Flour varies the most. Spooned and leveled flour is about 120 grams a cup. Scooped flour can be 140 grams or more. A kitchen scale is always more accurate than a cup.

Frequently asked questions
How many grams are in a cup of flour?
About 120 grams for all-purpose flour spooned into the cup and leveled. Scooping the cup into the bag packs the flour and can give 140 grams or more.
How many grams are in a cup of sugar?
About 200 grams of granulated sugar, 213 grams of packed brown sugar, and 120 grams of powdered sugar.
How many grams are in a cup of butter?

Is a US cup the same as a metric cup?
No. A US cup is 236.6 milliliters. A metric cup is 250 milliliters. This tool uses US cups.
